Read "Divided Memory" by Jeffrey Herf available from Rakuten Kobo. A significant new look at the legacy of the Nazi regime, this book exposes the workings of past beliefs and political in Brand: Harvard University Press. Students should read the book in conjunction with a history of France in World War II, as some historical references are not clearly explained for the uninitiated. For scholars of historical memory, Divided Memory shows both the advantages and limitations of a policy-based approach to the study of memory.

One approach to solving this problem has been to form joint committees to study history and to create jointly written textbooks. These efforts are ongoing but they have proved so far to be a very difficult path to reconciliation. A Japan-South Korea joint committee to create a shared history was launched in but has made little real headway.   They’ve got their shared, lifesaving maneuvers committed to memory (printed in a helpful appendix) and ready to save any day. Save the day they must, as a mysterious, bendy gentleman and an oversized, clingy platypus have been unleashed on the city of Fry, and all the residents and their belongings seem to be frozen in time and place.

Divided Memory is an excellent study, one which is also eminently teachable. It provides both a comprehensive survey of extant scholarly insights and myriad of original arguments presented with admirable crystalline clarity.
